Person Centred Counselling in Nottingham

Person centred therapy can help with a wide range of challenges, from anxiety and low self-esteem to relationship difficulties and life transitions. Whatever brings you here, you don't have to face it alone.

You deserve support that sees the whole of you — not just your problems, but your strengths, your resilience, and your potential to grow.

Counselling in Nottingham and online

I offer person centred counselling to adults locally and, for anyone further afield, online. Online sessions work as well as meeting in person for most people, both locally and nationally, and they make it easier to find a time that fits around work or caring responsibilities.

You do not need a referral or a diagnosis. Many people come because something has been difficult for a while and they want to make sense of it. Others come at a point of crisis.

What person centred therapy is

This way of working starts from the idea that you are the expert on your own life. My job is not to diagnose you, or to tell you what to do, or to set you exercises between sessions. It is to offer a steady, accepting relationship in which you can think aloud and be met without judgement.

That sounds simple, and it is not the same as easy. Being properly listened to is rarer than it should be, and for many people it is the first time they have had space to say difficult things without managing someone else's reaction to them.

It is useful across a great deal — anxiety, low mood, grief, difficult relationships, or a general sense that something is not right. It sits alongside any medical support or medication you may already have, rather than replacing it. If you are in crisis or need urgent mental health support, your GP or NHS 111 can respond more quickly than I can.

A place to be yourself

My background is in person centred therapy. I believe a warm, affirming therapeutic relationship is the core of healing work.

Healing and change take time, and the foundation for which begins in a place you can be open about your feelings and all the parts of yourself.

Coming to therapy

You might be coming to therapy with a clear sense of what you're looking for — perhaps wanting space to explore your thoughts, gain clarity on specific issues, understand patterns in your life, process emotions, or develop practical strategies for moving forward.

Alternatively, you may feel uncertain about exactly what you need, sensing that something isn't quite right or that you're facing challenges without a clear path forward. In these situations, therapy can help you identify and understand the various factors affecting your well-being, working together to discover what you need to feel more balanced, confident, and fulfilled.

Regardless of where you are in this process, my role is to meet you where you are; to provide therapy that is individual.

What to expect

The first step is a free conversation of up to twenty minutes, by phone or video. It is a chance to tell me what you are looking for and to ask anything you want to ask. There is no obligation to book afterwards.

If we go ahead, sessions are fifty minutes and usually weekly, at the same time each week. Some people come for a few months, others for much longer. There is no fixed length and we would talk about it rather than decide in advance.

Everything you bring is confidential. I am a Registered Member of the BACP and work to their Ethical Framework, and I have regular clinical supervision as all registered counsellors do.

Sessions and rates

The initial conversation is free — up to twenty minutes, with no obligation.

£65 for a fifty-minute session, in person or online. Longer ninety-minute sessions are also available; please ask.

Where we meet

The Magnolia Centre, Mapperley Park, Nottingham. Or online. Please contact me for availability of in-person appointments.
